How to run an MTR for Windows and Mac

Windows

  1. Download WinMTR from https://sourceforge.net/projects/winmtr/files/WinMTR-v092.zip/download and install it on your computer.
  2. Run the application and enter the IP address you wish to test into the “Host:” box at the top. In this case “mc.hypixel.net”.
  3. Wait for the number of “sent” packets to be at least 100.
  4. Click “Copy text to clipboard”. This will copy the result of the MTR to your computer's clipboard.
  5. Upload the result to a website like https://pastebin.com/ (ensure the privacy setting is set to unlisted)
  6. Give that link to the person who is trying to help you solve the connection issue.

Mac

  1. Install Homebrew. Open Terminal and enter /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)" - it may ask you for username and password.
  2. Once Homebrew is installed run `brew install mtr`.
  3. After the package `mtr` has been installed you will be able to run mtr (IP Address) for example; “mtr mc.hypixel.net”
  4.  Let the mtr run until you see the “sent” packets reach 100.
  5. Highlight and select the terminal window with your cursor, copy it to you clipboard with Command + C then upload to a website like https://pastebin.com/ (ensure the privacy setting is set to unlisted).
  6. Give that link to the person who is trying to help you solve the connection issue.
